Description

Explore the origins of goth in punk and why its fashion, music, and ideas still resonate today. Followed by Q&A.

What does it mean to dress in black and why has Goth lasted for so long? Is it simply fashion or a way of expressing resistance?

Goth grew out of the rebellious spirit of 1970s punk and became a bold subculture known for its monochrome style, romantic influences, and connection to themes of horror. This talk explores how goth fashion and music developed into a powerful way of expressing identity. It looks at how the style signals outsider status, challenges gender norms, and pushes back against mainstream values, drawing on key figures, club cultures, and music from both the past and present.Today, goth is gaining attention again, with new publications and media revisiting its history. But is it really a comeback, or has it always been present? We will explore how nostalgia for the 1980s and today’s social and political climate have shaped goth in the twenty-first century, and why it remains culturally significant.

**Doors open at 7:00PM, talk starts at 7:30PM - come down early to grab a good seat!**
