Description

Explore the history of protest in a new light through the lens of feminism, women’s rights and intersectionality. Followed by Q&A.

Why do modern British protest movements look the way they do, and why are women so often at their center? Join Dr Emma Cunningham in examining the long, courageous trajectory of female-led dissent across the UK. By breaking down defining moments - from equal pay strikes and anti-racist organizing to campaign work against state violence - this presentation demonstrates how women’s liberation in Britain has always been intrinsically tied to broader struggles for human rights and social reform.

By connecting historical movements to the socio-political landscape of 21st-century Britain, we’ll learn how to apply a critical lens to evaluate today's activist movements. The discussion uncovers how women have adapted their strategies in the face of changing legal frameworks, media representation, and police powers across decades. Ultimately, this talk provides a roadmap for understanding power, resilience, and the indispensable role of female solidarity in driving systemic change across the nation.

**Doors open at 7pm, talk starts at 7:30pm - come down early to grab a good seat!**
