MOTHERMARY is a retro-futuristic Art Pop duo formed by identical twin sisters Elyse and Larena. Raised in a strict Mormon family in Missoula, Montana, the project emerged as a radical escape from religious repression and patriarchal control. Self-taught in production to retain total creative autonomy, the bicoastal duo channels their shared history into an engrossing juxtaposition of light and dark—pairing ethereal, celestial vocals with dark, gritty synthscapes. Released via Italians Do It Better, their debut album I Am Your God subverts traditional religious iconography, challenging modern ideals of worship while inviting listeners to reclaim their own agency and holiness.
