REDD KROSS

It's been five years since the last Redd Kross album, the underrated, overlooked Beyond The Door. It seemed to get lost in the pandemic's slipstream, but the McDonald brothers have made up for that with a self-titled collection that ranks among their very best. It's a précis of all they do well: power-pop, bratty punk and psych-rock with a weird, cosmic-mystic touch. There's also something curiously snarling about their observations on the pitfalls and pratfalls of fame. They've always understood the workings of the star-maker machinery, and here they're calling out its individualist psychoses. (Jon Dale / Uncut)
