It is free rock. It is psych jazz. And it is even no wave noise rock. Eye Make The Horizon from Stockholm, Sweden are diving head first into the high energy swirls of musical risk taking, still being able to hold down a motorik groove that makes you want to dance.

The musicians of the band have been active in the Swedish scene of improvised music for many years and have played and cooperated with musicians such as Mats Gustafsson, Jim O´Rourke, Bo Hansson, Reine Fiske, David Stackenäs, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Terry Riley, JG Thirlwell, and Stina Nordenstam to name a few. Two members are also members of the well-established Swedish free rock/psych band Kungens Män.

Eye Make The Horizon have released two albums on Drone Rock Records (UK) and a third record is coming out in October 2024 on DRR in cooperation with the Swedish label Majestic Mountain Records.

Opening track ‘Fever’ is a case in point… the first listen told me that there was something vaguely ‘Daydream Nation’ Sonic Youth going on here but, actually like that brilliant album, there was a heavy sonic meniscus on the top that needed to be overcome first.

Repeated listens have enabled me to dive into than and, once immersed, I began to get into the depth of the track and tap into its power… especially in the way that the guitar seems to freebase its way through. Then there is the sign of things to come when the more jazz-like elements kick in at the end. - 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐫

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐉𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐲 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐚𝐱 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:

The Jonny Halifax Invocation is a project orchestrated by Bethnal Green's filthiest psychedelic blues shaman. The one man skronk blues maelstrom of Honkeyfinger and the cosmic gospel fuzz of Jonny Halifax & The Howling Truth now mutate into the sprawling uncompromising free raga blues transcendentalism of The Invocation. The Invocation play out like a mind melting psychedelic western movie and feature an ever changing and evolving lineup of like-minded musicians.

Jonny Halifax is a primitivist free blues outsider, sonic shaman of the acid fuzzed lap steel guitar, demented blower of the howling harmonica of doom. The Jonny Halifax Invocation combines avant swamp blues heaviosity with kosmic free jazz experimentalism in a fluid collective of godless raag brut improvisations - sonic visions of an hallucinatory apocalyptic near future.

Inspired by Henry Flynt’s avant bluegrass experiments fusing country blues with eastern acoustic musical stylings, Spacemen 3’s contemporary sitar music, and the monolithic drone doom immersion of Sunn 0))). The blues are transmogrified, unhinged, reduced and re-imagined as intoxicating, trance-inducing, feedback-drenched noise paintings, along with live film projections.

The Jonny Halifax Invocation follows Jonny’s junkshop skronk blues one man band Honkeyfinger, and the Julian Cope endorsed gospel fuzz psychedelia of Jonny Halifax & The Howling Truth, whilst not forgetting his ambient drone metal side project; Deathenteredinerror. His musical CV also includes studio contributions to tracks by Andrew Weatherall’s Two Lone Swordsmen, UK metal behemoths Orange Goblin, Heck and Melting Hand.

Their debut EP 'Heavy Meditations' was released in 2021 on Greasy Noise, and their debut full length LP Acid Blüüs Räägs : Vol. 1 touched down on God Unknown Records in March 2022 and was followed by LP Acid Blüüs Räägs : Vol. 2 on the same label in April 2024, both relased to critical acclaim.

The band have picked up 𝐁𝐁𝐂 𝟔 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜 support and multiple radio airplays by DJ 𝐆𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐞.

Barbican Estate formed in Tokyo in 2019 and consists of Kazuki Toneri (Gt, Sitar), Miri (Ba, Vo), and Koh Hamada (Dr, Percussion). They’ve consistently played shows in the Tokyo underground scene along with releasing an EP and 3 singles in 2020. They released their 1st album Way Down East in winter 2021. Barbican Estate uses drones, psychedelic soundscapes, driving rhythms, and vivid lyricism to create their massive sound.

The band's influences include Japanese psychedelic/noise rock, US experimental bands, classic film, as well as literary and architectural movements. From 2022, they moved to London, and are actively working mainly on live performances.

In June 2024, new new EP 'Viscum' was released on vinyl to critical acclaim with a headline release show at The Grace in London.
