Shiftless Shuffle

On Sunday 14th June, the JazzCotech Crew and DJ Perry Louis celebrate the 25th anniversary of Shiftless Shuffle with a very special session in the basement of 229.

The journey began during the heyday of \*Messin’ Around\*, the legendary Saturday night Jazz Funk and Boogie party at the Jazz Café with Adrian Gibson and the JazzCotech Dancers. Each week, as part of a night of DJs, live music and club sessions, the JazzCotech dancers performed a twenty-minute showcase. Over more than ten years, this helped inspire the creation of Shiftless Shuffle.

The name \*Shiftless Shuffle\* comes from the Herbie Hancock track on the album \*Mr Hands\*, a true dancefloor jazz classic. The night first began in June 2001, and twenty-five years later we are still moving, still grooving, still shifting and shuffling, continuing to keep UK Dancefloor Jazz alive.

Special Guest: Nicola Conte (DJ Set)

World-renowned producer, guitarist, bandleader and DJ, Nicola Conte brings his deep musical vision to a rare vinyl-only DJ set. A serious collector with impeccable taste, his sets travel through 70s soul, rare funk, Afro-spiritual jazz, Brazilian sounds, Italian jazz and nu-disco.

Drawing on releases with MPS Records, collaborations with Gianluca Petrella, and projects such as \*Umoja\*, expect depth, elegance and pure musical storytelling throughout.
