London's Teeth Of The Sea have always held one venue in their native city in particularly high esteem. It's the venue where they've watched heroes like Lightning Bolt, Seefeel, Comets On Fire and Oxbow dealing out deliverance to the black walls via the pulverising PA. It's the venue which had the chutzpah to incur the wrath of the self-righteous via Throbbing Gristle's Prostitution exhibition in 1976. It's the space which dealt with Einsturzende Neubauten's attempt to drill through the venue floor by gamely decrying the band's half-heartednesss. It's the ICA, and this band can think of no better place to kick off the next phase of their storied journey, and no better band than Tyneside's monomaniacal magicians Smote to share the bill. Come one, come all to the motherlode.
Blasting their way through all or any genre distinctions across the chaos and abandon of eighteen years, London’s Teeth Of The Sea remain true to their original mission – to set sparks flying at the meeting point between raw noise and rich atmosphere. Thundering beat-driven abandon, chaotic psychedelia, heavy melancholia and indelible melody have all coalesced and converged on their five albums for Rocket Recording, most recently manifesting in 2023's critically acclaimed Hive, and heading who knows where.
Presented by Baba Yaga's Hut & Institute of Contemporary Arts.
