Shovel Dance Collective return to Manchester after a sold out show here earlier in 2024! The band's incredible latest LP The Shovel Dance shows them as attentive to the English, Irish and Scottish sources they reference, which date back to the 1600s and beyond. At the same time, they give their arrangements an experimental edge—as close to Scott Walker or Swans as Shirley Collins or Bert Lloyd—that situates them on the bleeding edge of folk music.
Support comes from Able Noise. Alex and George’s experimental baritone guitar and drum duo, based between The Hague, the Netherlands and Athens, Greece. Through the use of voices, tapes and alternative methods of playing their instruments, they create a minimal and visual performance exploring the acoustics of space, the roles of performer and audience, and the physicality of performing.
