Albertine's new album ‘Girl Missing’ (coming out on February 21st, 2025) is the latest highly anticipated project and follows Albertine’s acclaimed 2021 debut, The Sticky Fingers. It invites listeners into an intimate exploration of sisterhood, resilience, and overcoming grief, whilst emerging with a big dose of positivity and encouragement for what lies ahead.
The album's genesis took root during a period of personal loss. When a close friend went missing, Albertine found herself writing and revisiting unreleased sketches, slowly building a musical mosaic that expresses her understanding of absence. "I was creating a sounding biography of love," she reflects, weaving together the themes of female friendship.
Created between her recording studio in East Berlin and Margate, ‘Girl Missing’ is both contemplative and frisky, shaped by Sarges' nimble-footed vocal acrobatics. With longtime collaborator Lo Selbo, Albertine leaned into intricate soundscapes, arranging airy flute parts and choirs “to hold space for vulnerability” and then recording vintage organs and electric pianos to create warmth and soulfulness “to ease the pain”.
