The Harlem-born, percussionist, composer and bandleader helped define Latin jazz and lay the groundwork for 1970s salsa and is rightfully so considered one of the most beloved symbols of Latin jazz.
In a career that stretched over six decades, Puente was a clever innovator and a prized collaborator, going on to create an enormous body of work (over 100 albums) while earning a reputation as a tireless performer.
