For the very first edition of the Belgrave Listening Group in 2025, we return with a very special listening event celebrating Independent Venue Week, featuring a duo of albums from two of Leeds' most important bands of the last 50 years in the pitch black on our incredible soundsystem.
We kick off the evening with the iconic debut album from Leeds' post-punk trailblazers Gang of Four as we delve into Entertainment! — a seminal LP of snappy, angular, forward-thinking music that continues to inspire (and be poorly imitated by) art college bands up and down the country to this very day.
Following that, we turn our attention to one of the most exciting bands of the post-punk nouvelle vague — English Teacher. They are the first band outside London to take home the Mercury Prize since 2014's winners, Young Fathers. Their record is truly incredible: full of introspection, perfectly crafted melodies, and some of the year’s best hooks. With their roots firmly planted in Leeds, English Teacher are well on their way to joining the exclusive pantheon of iconic British bands taking the world by storm.
We can't wait to welcome you to our first Listening Group of 2025. As always, we'll have the incense and the eye masks ready — all you'll need to do is bring yourself, sit back, and enjoy your favourite albums as you've never heard them before.
