Description

I don’t belong anywhere – the cinema of Chantal Akerman, directed by Marianne Lambert, touches upon some of 40 films by this prolific filmmaker, including the iconic Jeanne Dielman, 23, Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles. From Brussels to Tel Aviv, from Paris to New York, the documentary takes us to all of the places she visited on her travels. An experimental filmmaker and a nomad, she shares with us her cinematographic journey, which continually questions the meaning of her existence at the risk of not winning the audience over or of confronting it. With her editor, Claire Atherton, she explains the origins of her language and of its esthetical biases. Lively, innovative films, which continue to influence a number of artists, as evidenced by American director Gus van Sant.
