Join us for the launch of the new Firestations album (released 25 April 2025 on Lost Map Records).
Mike Cranny's 'Many White Horses' is a collection of intimate acoustic songs and instrumentals, blended with field recordings and lyrics inspired by a sailing expedition. It marks Mike Cranny’s first solo endeavour, playing a variety of instruments and self-producing, albeit one enriched by Laura Copsey’s contributions on flugelhorn, flute and vocals.
Conceived during an August 2024 art residency aboard Sail Britain's "Merlin" in the Inner Hebrides, the album reflects the experience of exploring the Isle of Rum, Arisaig coastline, Ardnamurchan peninsula, and the Isles of Mull, Ulva, and Gometra. The voyage, marked by challenging weather, provided the raw material for Cranny's recordings.
Though a departure from Firestations' 'Thick Terrain,' 'Many White Horses' retains Cranny's signature songwriting. It echoes the meditative, stripped-back qualities of Firestations' 'Sunken Versions,' found on the "Automatic Tendencies" EP series, emphasizing hushed acoustic textures and a quietly hypnotic atmosphere.
Mike and Laura are joined by Neil Walsh on viola and vocals.
