We welcome stalwarts of Glasgow’s fertile traditional music scene, The Canny Band and support from Beth Malcolm, for their Kings Place debuts, as part of our weekend celebration, Ímar Fest.
The Canny Band (Sam Mabbett, Michael Biggins (BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2021) and Callum Convoy) are a rare fusion of piano, diatonic button accordion and Bodhran.
In 2021 the band were recipients of the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music ‘Up and coming’ award which led to a busy summer touring festivals around Scotland and England. Fellow stalwarts of Glasgow’s fertile music scene, the already-seasoned trio cook up an expert and effervescent mix of trad-based material with borrowings from classical, jazz and beyond. Rising stars of the traditional music scene, The Canny Band are not to be missed!
Beth Malcolm is a singer-songwriter and keys player from Perth. Beth’s music is folk-inspired, and she sings traditional, modern and self-penned Scots songs. Beth had a ‘breakout’ moment when she won a coveted ‘Danny’ award at Celtic Connections 2019. This led to performing at the virtual Celtic Connections in 2020, alongside her folk heroes Ross Ainslie, Siobhan Miller, Talisk and Mànran. Attracting attention from international agents with her songwriting and modern arrangements of traditional song.
