Caroline Kraabel + Hard Edges (Chris Dowding)

Caroline Kraabel (she/they) is a London-based improviser, saxophonist, and artist.

In 2022 she founded a large improvising group made up of all sorts of women, non-binary,

and transgender improvisers: ONe\_Orchestra New. They explore completely free large-

group improvisation and difference in monthly labs and regular performances (recent

release, Live at the Vortex July 2024).

Kraabel’s soundfilm, London 26 and 28 March 2020: imitation: inversion won the 2021 Ivor

Novello Award for Best Sound Art Composer.

Hard Edges is an improvising brass trio comprising Chris Dowding (trumpet, piccolo trumpet & flugelhorn), Dave Amis (trombone) and Ben Higham (tuba, trumpet & flugelhorn). They explore the sound palette and textures of three brass voices, from explosive blasts to more subtle multiphonics.
