In a dystopian, overpopulated Britain, a law called the 'Parental Act' requires all couples to apply for a license or 'Stork Card' to have children. In this world we follow young, infectiously charming couple Lily and Gareth, who after falling pregnant, are required to attend a week-long 'Retreat'. The stakes are high, failing the retreat means forced abortion.

Madly, deeply in love, these two are caught off guard by the pregnancy but think the whole process will be a walk in the park. However, once there, things take a sharp turn. Lily and Gareth discover hidden truths about each other, putting their relationship into question.

Over the week our dynamic duo are systematically unravelled by a group of scrupulous psychologists mandated to determine who is granted the right to a child, and who isn't. Forever changed and clinging on to their past naivety, their future and life of their baby is left unclear.

Dans un futur proche en Grande-Bretagne, une loi baptisée le Parental Act impose à tous les couples de faire une demande de licence, la "Stork Card", pour avoir un enfant.

Dans ce monde, on suit Lily et Gareth, un jeune couple irrésistiblement attachant, qui découvre une grossesse inattendue. Conformément à la loi, ils sont alors envoyés dans un Retreat obligatoire de trois semaines. Mais l'enjeu est de taille, échouer à ce stage signifie une interruption forcée de grossesse.

Fous amoureux, un brin naïfs, ils prennent d'abord tout cela à la légère. Pourtant, une fois sur place, les choses basculent. Leur couple vacille, mis à nu par des psychologues méticuleux, chargés de décider qui mérite, ou non, de devenir parent.

Au fil d'une semaine intense, leur relation se fissure, les vérités éclatent, et leur insouciance s'effondre. Transformés à jamais, Lily et Gareth se retrouvent suspendus entre passé idéalisé et avenir incertain, pour eux comme pour leur enfant.
