Necrophilia Film: Sex Death Art

In this extensive illustrated lecture, Professor Patricia MacCormack will discuss the underworld of necrophilia on film. Beginning with the earliest necro examples of Death and the Maiden on film through to the question of whether vampires, mummies and zombies count as necrophilia lovers, the lecture culminates in an in depth discussion of many Italian necrophilia film from the 60-80s, including The Horrible Dr Hichcock, Flesh for Frankenstein and her personal favourite Beyond the Darkness (the latter 2 notorious video nasties), and also such gems as Porno Holocaust and Erotic nights of the Living Dead. Finishing with the work of Buttgereit and Cerda, this deep dive discusses necrophilia as a romance and a cinematic delirium, differentiating it from violent films that show aggression, where love of the dead is an afterthought. These films, like the lecture itself, are an 80-minute labyrinthine odyssey and a love poem to necrophilic film. There will be discussion time.
