Description

Baba Yaga's Hut Presents:

The Grubby Mitts at the ICA - 27th of September 2025

The Grubby Mitts are nine piece band from Bedford U.K, fronted by artist Andy Holden, writing in collaboration with Roger Illingworth. They are noted for elaborate live shows which incorporate Holden’s video projections and eclectic performances. The band present their new album *Love in the Misanthropocene* as an exuberant, multi-media concert accompanied by a full brass section, mixing emotive pop songs with techniques from the history of the avant-garde.

Holden is known for exhibitions such as *Laws of Motion in a Cartoon Landscape* (2016), in which an animated version of the artist declared the world was now best understood as a cartoon, *Natural Selection* (2017), in which the artist and his father explored nature and nurture through birds nests and eggs, and his *Maximum Irony! Maximum Sincerity* manifesto. The Grubby Mitts, evolving out of Holden’s films and installations, grew into an autonomous vehicle for poignant, philosophical songs which tread a fine line between sentiment and experimentation.

Following the release of their Valediction EP earlier in the year, this concert marks the release of the second full length Grubby Mitts album, *Love in the Misanthropocene*, which is concurrently presented in exhibition form at Palmer Gallery in London (18th Sept-21st Oct).

Presented by Baba Yaga's Hut.
