2 Tone Night featuring **a conversation with Daniel Rachel** (1 hour), author of 'Too Much Too Young: the 2 Tone Records Story' & 'Walls Come Tumbling Down: the music & politics of Rock Against Racism' followed by **the first UK screening** of: Madness! Princes of Ska & Kings of Pop (1 hour). 2 Tone music after till closing - Daniel will have books available for sale on the night.
**About the film:**
Director Christophe Conte this time focuses on Madness. The band who emerged at the same time as The Specials and their label 2 Tone, had their own unique take on British ska, a combination of Jamaican music and punk. At a time shaken by neo-fascist violence and the rise of Margaret Thatcher, the movement contributed to a social and political awakening.
The film unearths the early studio experiences of this group of friends, catapulted from their first album by the hit "One Step Beyond" to the point of becoming an international pop phenomenon.
