Populous

Populous is Andrea Mangia, artist and producer based in the mystical land of Salento, Puglia, Italy. Andrea grew up among the olive groves, learning about music by listening to the sounds of nature. Driven by his passion, he graduated in Musicology where he learnt about vibration, rhythm, sound and how to master the art of translating these into a vocabulary of music and emotions. His first album was released by Berlin based Morr Music, who in 2003 published the ethereal indietronic “Quipo”. Fascinated in equal measures by the musical vibes of the southern hemisphere and European cult labels like Warp, Mille Plateaux and Basic Channel, Populous’s creativity is generated by fusing these two influences, forming his own distinct blend. As a lover of all things beautiful, Populous collaborates with fashion houses such as, Vivenne Westwood, Missoni, Gucci, Isabel Marant and Elie Saab, by creating soundtracks and sound design. You can find Andrea spinning decks at festivals such as Primavera Sound, SXSW, NOS Alive, Cordillera, and listen to him on radio stations like NTS, Dublab, Worldwide FM, Rinse and Kiosk. Examining through music topics such as identity, community, ecoanxiety, love and queerness; Populous believes in the healing power of ecstatic dance. To further explore and connect with his research base, in 2025 Populous founded his record label, Latinambient.
