Description

This band features five diverse and unique talents lead by Giacomo Smith. On trumpet Laura Jurd a Mercury nominated composer and soloist. On banjo Honey Boulton, in-demand trombonist Dan Higham and pianist Joe Webb all join from Giacomo’s renowned band Kansas Smitty’s.

Since he moved to London a decade ago from Montreal Canada, New Yorker Giacomo Smith has earned a reputation as one of the most distinct and versatile performers in London’s vital jazz scene. Notable appearances include performing Artie Shaw’s Clarinet Concerto with Guy Barker as a soloist at the Royal Albert Hall, with Wynton Marsalis at the Barbican Centre and in New York at Jazz at Lincoln Center, and multiple performances at the Cadogan Hall with Clare Teal. Smith has led performances at London’s Alexandra Palace and internationally, in Brussels, Paris, Baltimore, New York City and Rochester.

Reimagining the spirit of Louis Armstrong’s genre defining 1920s Hot Five band, this is an all-star line-up featuring the UK’s best jazz talent. Together the five-piece perform pre-swing repertoire with a twist from Armstrong, WC Handy, Jelly Roll Morton, Duke Ellington, and Fletcher Henderson. Blurring blues, ragtime, swing, and Latin, they bring a contemporary flair to jazz from this pioneering time.
