Cistern

Cistern play rock music like the best bands formed at the periphery: raw, scrappy, intuitive – a group of friends forging awe and anguish into song. Inspired by the indie rock of the 00’s, 90’s slowcore and 80’s post punk and goth music, their sound balances their eclectic music tastes to create something uniquely their own. Their songs often incorporate obscure, angular melodies and grooves while trying to hook the listener with guitar lines and vocal refrains. They aim to challenge the listeners expectations but not to the point of exhaustion, offering both tension and release. Drawing on multiple songwriters and writing in a collaborative way allows for a wide variety of styles and influences to penetrate their music, often resulting in songs with unconventional song structures and drastic dynamic changes. Based in Squamish, BC a relatively small and isolated town, the band operates outside of any convention big city “music scene” - allowing a focus on writing and recording without much peer influence or industry tampering.
