Duvel Mortgage (Bohman Brothers & Sophie Sleigh-Johnson) + Russell Walker & Rebecca Mahay + Jackie Montague
Duvel Mortgage
Sophie Sleigh-Johnson, Adam Bohman, Jonathan Bohman
When one sees a person with theodolite, one assumes all is well, but that is not always the case. Triangulation is not for the faint-hearted. Sophie Sleigh-Johnson and the Bohman Brothers wish to distance themselves. It is true the centroid of their tour is Brome but all roads will not lead to it necessarily. This could never be a Brome Iliad.
Sophie Sleigh-Johnson, born 1988, is a Southend-on-Sea based artist and writer. She holds a PhD from Goldsmiths College, where she teaches as an Associate Lecturer in Fine Art Critical Studies. She has exhibited in venues including Focal Point Gallery, The Horse Hospital, and Arcadia Missa.
Her ongoing investigations concern the magico-materialist temporality of place and the esoteric ground rock of comedy, in work distributed across text, cassette, sonic environments, lino prints and local newspapers.
Her latest spoken word cassette tape is Nuncio Ref! (2022) out on Crow Versus Crow, and she released the live CD Orbit-Son in collaboration with Adam Bohman and Sue Lynch on Infant tree in 2024.
Last year she published Code: Damp – An Esoteric Guide to British Sitcoms on Repeater Books.
She writes for publications including Darkside, The Leigh Times, Faunus: The Journal of Arthur Machen Society, and The London Drinker.
Presented by The Holloway Norwich.
