Over the last two years, Howard Assembly Room has teamed up with Leeds/UK salsa/Latin music legendary DJ and live music promoter Lubi Jovanovic (DJ Lubi), for a series of great mambo, salsa and Cuban music concerts. Each time, salsa dancers have attended in great numbers and asked if there could be a salsa dance social at the venue as they love the place - the huge wooden dancefloor, the ambiance of the room, the general high standard and class of the place.

Well salseros, your requests have been heard and answered. On Saturday 1st November, for one night only, Howard Assembly Room and DJ Lubi present VIVA SALSA! 

A Saturday night, Leeds city centre, salsa dance party for all dancers, whichever salsa dance style you dance, and whatever level you are at. Featuring three of the best salsa DJs in the north of England playing salsa music from across the decades (the 70s to now), and regions (salsa from Puerto Rico, Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Africa, Japan and beyond), plus a sprinkling of merengue and Dominican bachata to keep the party bouncing. Plus, there's an early doors, all-levels salsa dance class too.

DJ Jane Salsaldi - Manchester DJ running her Salsaldi parties since 2009, resident salsa DJ across the Revolucion De Cuba venues (Manchester, Liverpool, Nottingham), promoter Salsaldi At The Legion (Wilmslow) for 16 years

Three of the best with almost a century of salsa DJ experience behind them, all reunited again for the first time since the legendary Calle Ocho Leeds parties of the 2010s.

Your early doors salsa dance teacher is :

Leandro Russo of Sabroso Dance Academy, Leeds. Originally from Italy, he's been involved in the Leeds salsa dance scene for almost a decade now. He and dance partner Marie Claire Mathias founded Sabroso Dance Academy over 5 years ago and teach weekly classes on Thursdays and Sundays at different venues. He and Marie then developed the Sabroso Dance Company, a salsa/mambo dance team that has performed at the biggest salsa congresses and festivals across the UK and the EU. They often dance with top UK band Orchestra Mambo International and were guests at their Howard Assembly Room show back in summer 2024. Leandro is also the resident dance teacher for the University Of Leeds Salsa Society, teaching classes for them weekly in term time.

Leandro will teach a 45 minute all levels (beginners, improvers), salsa partner class from 7.45pm. 

PLEASE NOTE, due to the popularity of Howard Assembly Room salsa dance classes at the A Night In Havana events, with 100 or more people taking the class and problems with seeing/hearing the dance teacher, this class will be limited to just FIFTY PEOPLE. There is a seperate 'salsa dance class & party' ticket option with just 50 tickets available. If you would like to take the salsa dance class, please buy this option of ticket.

Doors 7pm. Salsa dance class with Leandro Russo 7.45pm. Salsa dance social 8.30pm-12.30am. Curfew 1am.
