Description

Instrumental in shaping the landscape of UK dance music for over thirty years, A Guy Called Gerald will bring a genre bending 90-minute live, improvised set to the Howard Assembly Room, after a Q&A (with details to follow).

Rising to prominence with acid house anthem Voodoo Ray, released as his first solo single in 1988, A Guy Called Gerald also co-founded 808 state who debuted with Newbuild in the same year, along with the iconic track Pacific State in 1989. Inspired first by soul and jazz, and later by New York electro-funk, Chicago Acid House and Detroit Techno, he went on to release pioneering jungle album 28 Gun Bad Boy in 1992 before the critically acclaimed classic Black Street Technology in 1995.

Still known for his independent spirit and refusal to compromise, A Guy Called Gerald continues to tour worldwide, bringing his “true school” electronic sound to audiences. This is a rare chance to catch him in Leeds and a must-see for electronic music enthusiasts and anyone interested in the roots of UK dance culture.

Presented by Howard Assembly Room.
