An evening of exploratory guitar, folk song and improvisation
This February brings together two distinctive voices in contemporary guitar-led music: JIAL and Louis Alberry.
JIAL is the instrumental project of London-based guitarist, composer and educator Josh Lamdin. Blurring the line between composition and improvisation, his music is introspective, emotive and quietly virtuosic. Drawing on jazz, blues, fusion, folk and Americana, JIAL’s solo performances strip the music back to its rawest form — intimate acoustic guitar pieces that unfold differently each night, guided by feel, space and nuance.
Hailing from the Jurassic Coast of Dorset, Louis Alberry crafts exploratory songs that weave fingerpicked folk guitar with jazz harmony, wonky grooves and dusky, languid vocals. His songwriting recalls the introspective warmth of Nick Drake and Linda Perhacs, while moving fluidly through wider influences including Caetano Veloso and JJ Cale. The result is music that feels both grounded and gently adventurous.
Together, JIAL and Louis Alberry offer a deeply atmospheric evening — rooted in tradition, open to improvisation, and rich in subtle detail.
