Crunch Tapes & Positive Transmitter present:
Who is kanekoayano?
Kaneko Ayano is not an artist you understand by skipping through the first 20 seconds of a song or jumping straight to the chorus, because she doesn’t build her music around those conventions.
Her work reveals itself gradually, balancing intimacy and intensity: in a single month she can move from a sold-out show at Nippon Budokan (11,000 capacity), to a blistering noise-driven band performance in a Nagoya livehouse, often reaching My Bloody Valentine-level volume and density, to a completely unamplified solo set in a 1,500-cap hall with just voice and acoustic guitar. The Budokan, one of Japan’s most iconic venues, has hosted three of her sold-out shows, including a full band performance in 2021 and a two-day run in 2023 split between solo acoustic and band formats.
She regularly tours large halls and arenas across Japan, headlines major festivals, and has successfully taken her shows across Asia, Australia, and the UK, while her appearances at Fuji Rock Festival consistently draw full-capacity crowds, including the White Stage in 2023 and the Red Marquee Stage in 2025, both of which required entry restrictions due to demand.
