Description

A boy, a city, and a 5-meter horse made from war debris. A powerful solo story of imagination, resilience, and peaceful resistance in Jenin.

A story from Jenin that feels universal.

The Horse of Jenin, written and performed by Palestinian actor Alaa Shehada, takes us back to childhood, where all a boy really wants is to play, laugh, and imagine. Even in the middle of destruction, imagination finds a way to build something powerful.

After the 2002 invasion of Jenin, a German artist and local Palestinians created a 5-meter horse from the metal fragments and debris left behind. They rode it through the city — and for a moment, people felt lifted again.

In Arab culture, the horse is a symbol of freedom. This horse became something more: a symbol of peaceful resistance and resilience.

Last November, an Israeli bulldozer removed the horse from the camp.

So Alaa asks: What happened to the horse?

Was it arrested? Did it go to court? Was it interrogated? Did it tell them about the day two boys tried to ride it?

A powerful solo performance about memory, imagination, and the quiet strength of people who refuse to stop dreaming.
