**SEPTEMBER 20TH LINE UP:**
**MADDIE MORRIS**
*Join BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award winner Maddie Morris, described by Jim Moray as “leading the next generation of socially conscious songwriters” on their autumn tour for an intimate and thought-provoking live experience.*
*Maddie’s music explores how personal narratives in song can hold deep political importance. Folk songs have always told stories, but Maddie makes their mark by turning storytelling into action, creating work that is both deeply personal and quietly transformative.*
*In this new show, Maddie invites you on a journey through stories of their life, while opening space for you to explore your own. Blending folk traditions and protest song with their perspective as a queer autistic person, this show examines identity, gender, disability, survival, and joy in community with warmth, humour, and honesty.*
*This is more than a gig. Through optional interactive zines filled with playful doodles and reflective prompts, audience members can engage with the themes in their own way, contributing (if they wish) to a larger collaborative piece.*
*A hopeful and generous storyteller, Maddie creates a welcoming and inclusive space for all, rooted in connection, creativity, and community for all and especially for those who don’t feel at home in traditional live music settings.*
*“Leading the next generation of socially conscious songwriters.” - Jim Moray*
**RYKENER**
**LA'L TETHERA**
*Based in the rainy Lakeland Fells, Georgie Rix, Ada Wood and Leo Rix (viola, fiddle and accordion) combine broad, textural arrangements with close vocal harmony, to create a tight and intentional sound, full of groove, grit and lilt. They bring a deep-rooted knowledge of English folk to a globally inspired repertoire. Blowing you away with their unmistakable sound yet making you feel like you’re around the kitchen table with them all at the same time.*
*Having independently learnt their craft in pubs and community projects, La’l Tethera developed their collective sound busking, before earning local acclaim playing festivals and events. They have since taken the opportunity to learn from respected teachers including, Jo Freya, Bryony Griffith, Carolyn Francis and Marie Fielding. Both Georgie and Ada currently study degrees in traditional music, at Leeds Conservatoire and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland respectively.*
*Their creativity and skill have earned them places on national and international projects, enabling the three to place their distinctive sound within a contemporary social context. Their close-knit friendship shines through their playing accentuating repertoire which both remembers the past and looks to the future.*
**About The Wild Moon Folk Collective:**
Wild Moon Folk Collective are a rallying point for the experimental, trad-, and alt-folk scene in Leeds and beyond. We are musicians, artists, communicators and producers with a drive to make powerful, beautiful and arresting folk experiences. We meet regularly to share ideas, push the form and create art that we might struggle to achieve on our own.
The collective functions as a support network for artists as they build their careers. It is a space to get advice, sound out ideas and share best practice. It is also a space to foster new ideas and collaborations. We pool our skills, so artists can share these to enrich our creative output and make promotion more effective.
The group aims to be a beacon for progressive folk in the region. Where it serves, the collective can operate as a label to amplify the reach of creative projects, or provide behind the scenes support by matching artists with others from across disciplines who share their passion. We also work together to produce touchpoint projects with wide reach, such as concerts, events, installations and recordings.
