This is not a World Music Festival.
This is PHRE.
PHRE Festival brings together Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek, Cocanha and Katscha for a night moving between Anatolian psychedelia, Occitan polyphony and transnational club sounds.
Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek draw from Anatolian folk music, psychedelia, rock and contemporary influences. Led by Yıldırım’s distinctive voice and bağlama playing, the group brings new life to traditional songs while developing a sound of their own, emotional, expansive and, in their own words, “outernational”.
Cocanha’s commanding voices merge into hypnotic polyphony, driven by string tambourines, feet and hands. Through minimal arrangements, creative interventions and amplified sound, the French duo revive ancient songs in the Occitan language and turn them into something immediate, physical and made for movement.
Berlin-based DJ Katscha, who is also involved in organising the İÇ İÇE Festival, moves seamlessly between bass-heavy, experimental and transnational club music, creating unexpected connections across genres and regions.
