This is not a World Music Festival.
This is PHRE.
For the PHRE Festival finale, Habibi Funk and Morena Leraba take over Import Export for a night of rare records, hypnotic rhythms and a full open-air dance floor.
Ever since Import Export first opened, records from the Habibi Funk label have been a constant presence. For the finale, label founder Jannis Stütz brings his vinyl collection to Spiegelplatz, moving through funk, soul, jazz, punk and hip-hop released across the SWANA region from the 1960s to the 1980s. Instead of a traditional stage setup, the DJ booth becomes the centre of a large outdoor dance floor.
Morena Leraba brings the raw spirit of Lesotho’s Famo tradition into a psychedelic and genre-defying live sound. Through hypnotic vocals, driving rhythms and stories of shepherd life and migration, he transforms local histories into a performance that feels both deeply rooted and entirely his own.
