**WE SOUND LIKE HELICON: A Documentary on Psychedelia and Collaboration**
Glasgow-based band Helicon is set to launch a compelling new short documentary, WE SOUND LIKE HELICON, capturing the intense creative process behind their critically acclaimed album, ARISE. The 20-minute film, directed by filmmaker James Ewen, follows the band’s collaboration with Los Angeles-based DJ and artist AL LOVER at the legendary Castle of Doom Studios in Glasgow.
Filmed over the course of two years, the documentary explores the fusion of Glaswegian psych-rock and Los Angeles beat culture. It delves into how two distinct musical worlds found common ground through experimentation and a shared passion for psychedelia in the modern musical landscape.
The film’s launch is timed to coincide with Helicon’s performance at the Made In Scotland Gigs showcase on 17 August 2026, as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. This release marks the beginning of a broader program of live events and screenings across the UK, Europe, and the United States.
Following the success of ARISE—which reached No. 20 on the Official UK Albums Downloads Chart after its February 2026 release via Fuzz Club—this documentary acts as a vital bridge to the upcoming ARISE remix album featuring reinterpretations of tracks by influential figures in alternative music, including members of Mogwai, Belle & Sebastian, and Ride.
