**Bruce Mississippi Johnson**

Born in Mississippi, deep in America’s musical heartland, Bruce Johnson was destined to sing. Raised on gospel in his grandfather’s church and inspired by his father’s record collection, he discovered his voice listening to soulful legends like Al Green, Jackie Wilson, Lou Rawls and Gil Scott-Heron.

While serving as a U.S. Marine, Bruce realised music was his true calling. Performing Gil Scott-Heron’s songs in Africa, he honed his skills as a frontman. After leaving the military, he found himself in Paris, quickly earning a reputation for his commanding six-foot-four presence and effortlessly soulful bass-baritone voice. Immersed in the city’s jazz scene, he performed alongside musicians who had worked with Stan Getz, Sammy Davis Jr., and Keith Jarrett.

Presented by Toulouse Lautrec Jazz Club.
