About the Selector

Tony, aka The Jazz Dad, has curated four J Jazz compilations with UK label BBE, produced numerous full-album reissues, and co-authored a book on Japanese modern jazz from 1954–1988. His collection spans jazz, funk, soul, reggae, Latin, disco, hip hop, house, psych, rock and more.

From The Crates is a free DJ series at Grow Hackney designed for anyone who wants to listen deeply and discover music beyond the algorithms. Each night explores a carefully chosen theme, whether a label, city, movement or moment in time, uncovering rare gems and hidden sounds. Audiences are immersed in an intimate canal-side setting where atmosphere, mood and connection come first. Each night tells a story through sound and offers an experience that stays with you long after the night ends.
