10 YEARS OF JAZZ JAM WITH STRATOS

The first Thursday in June marks 10 years of Stratos’ Jazz Jam at Grow, the weekly session led by Rio Kai. Since 2016, it’s become part of the rhythm of Hackney Wick, a long-running meeting point for musicians and listeners, sharing all shades of jazz in our canalside venue.

This anniversary is about bringing that whole community back into the room. The band will open with a set of original material outside on the floating pontoon, before the second set opens into the jam. Past members, regular players, familiar faces and new ones are all invited to join in.

Built slowly over a decade through dedication, collaboration and countless sessions, Stratos has become more than a residency. It’s a community shaped by everyone who’s played, listened or found their way into the night and stayed. If you’ve ever been part of it, this celebration is for you.

Led by bassist, composer and musical director Rio Kai, Stratos is Grow’s house band and the driving force behind the weekly Thursday residency. Across the past decade, the band has continued to evolve through original material, collaborations and the wider jazz community built around the session.
