Mezzo’s Corner started in East London in 2020, when rising costs and decades of neglect were threatening spaces for young voices. Founded by Mezzo, a bedroom metalhead at heart, it began with an amp, a guitar and a mic around a Hackney Wick picnic bench.
Early jammers described it as therapy first. Mezzo would ring out his now-iconic four chords and people would step up and spill. Bedroom MCs brushed shoulders with classically trained horn players, neo-soul singers and musicians finding their feet.
After four years, the pressures of life in London and running the jam became too much and Mezzo stepped away. Two years later, Mezzo’s Corner returns for a three-month residency at Grow, just around the corner from where it began in Queen’s Yard.
Each night, the house band will kick things off before opening up the floor. Musicians and vocalists are invited to step up, with a regular rotation throughout the jam. House band instruments will be available, but bring your own if you can, especially anything beyond the current set-up of drums, guitar, bass, tenor sax, trumpet and keys.
Come to play, sing, listen or just be part of it.
