Piano\*Grafik presents an artistic collaboration, in a concert setting, between composer and pianist Paloma León, cellist Abi Asisa and audio-visual artist, sound designer, composer and artistic researcher Dr Merijn Royaards. With the use of spacial modelling technology, Piano\*Grafik reimagines 4 site-specific works painted for Ladbroke Hall by British artist and former president of the Royal Academy of Arts, Sir Christopher Le Brun.
Paloma León is a Los Angeles–born, London-based contemporary classical composer and pianist known for her debut album Piano Music for Movies. León is recognised for composing complex, memory-based piano works that both honour and subvert the rigour of her classical training.
Her work spans multiple disciplines, including scoring for fashion shows such as Saul Nash (Milan Fashion Week) and Daniel Del Valle (London Fashion Week), as well as television and other media. León has also debuted original compositions at The Royal Albert Hall and has worked as a pianist at The Royal Festival Hall (BAFTA).
Abi Asisa is a 24-year-old producer and electroacoustic Cellist, challenging norms by leveraging her classical training to dissolve the distinctions between jazz, pop, and experimental music.
Dr Merijn Royaards is an artist and researcher exploring the relationships between spatial experience, memory, and technological mediation, with a focus on spaces of conflict and hypersensory environments.
Presented by Ladbroke Hall.
