This is not a World Music Festival.
This is PHRE.
PHRE Festival opens with Melina and MAHA for an outdoor night between tradition, voice, resistance and raw live energy.
Melina is a French-Greek artist whose music carries the heritage of oral tradition through a deeply expressive voice shaped by melismatic ornamentation and emotional depth. Trained in singing and oud at the Conservatory of Oriental Music in Gennevilliers, and through further studies in traditional music in Greece, she creates a poetic and urban musical world where traditional sounds meet pop influences. Surrounded by virtuosic musicians, Melina brings a sound that is sensitive, powerful and full of atmosphere.
MAHA is a Sudanese multidisciplinary artist, zine publisher, musician and model based in the Netherlands. In recent years, she has reinvented herself as a punk artist and founded Mahazine, a self-published DIY zine creating space for activism, diaspora stories and intersectionality. Her music is driven by resistance, self-expression and community, with influences ranging from Poly Styrene of X-Ray Spex and Sinéad O’Connor to Amyl & The Sniffers and Grace Jones.
