Description

Like cooking, card games and democracy?

Whose Recipe? is a participatory cooking game where strangers come together to make sweet and sour pork without following a single fixed recipe.

Rooted in Cantonese cooking and shaped by migration, sweet and sour pork has become a recognisable image of “Chinese food” in Britain. Yet there is little agreement on what it should taste or look like. This workshop asks: whose recipe gets to count?

Participants will draw cards, explore cooking instructions from different sources, discuss what feels convincing, and vote on what to follow, change or reject. Every decision shapes the next step, with the group preparing and cooking the final dish together. There is no single chef or “correct” recipe—group choices shape the dish.

Expect cards, debate, hands-on cooking, disagreements, collective decisions and, eventually, something to eat.
